I recently found out about Canon 5D Mark III and Magic Lantern and I was blown away by some of the videos I have seen. However, lack of 4k support and overall poor quality of canon h264 codec when not recording in RAW is throwing me off. Other camera that I think about is Sony a6300, which can be bought in similar price range as the 5d3.
The DNG raw files have a lot of false detail evident on the 5D Mark II, whilst they are silky smooth and pin sharp on the 5D Mark III. Here’s an example of the difference (at 1:1): As you can see, there’s a lot of red, blue and green errors on the 5D2 DNG raw with fine detail, it has a very scratchy look and now smooth at all.
Magic Lantern are in the process of porting their 3K/4K modification to the 700D / T5i. First the 5D Mark III with Magic Lantern and now the 700D / T5i. Released back in 2013, the T5i was the final Rebel with the old 18MP sensor, before the shift to 24MP with the 750D in 2015. For the technically inclined here’s the thread at Magic Lantern
